Go Away Christmas. I’m Not Ready…..

Keep Calm and Merry On

Christmas……

I’m not ready. I’ll be honest.

I am normally the girl who’s so excited for Christmas that I start listening to Christmas music early. I usually sneak the Christmas tree up right at Thanksgiving. I typically have a head start on Christmas baking because I just want to!

But not this year.

I’m not a Scrooge! It’s just I wish I was more prepared for Christmas!

Anyone else feel like this year just went WAY too fast? I’m still, mentally, thinking it’s October. I wasn’t ready for Thanksgiving yet, and then it just zoomed by!

And I SHOULD be in a better mood! This time last year, we had a newborn. And felt like this.

Sleepy Elizabeth on Christmas 2013 Cup of Tea

I basically got the tree up, and that was it. But I knew that Elizabeth wouldn’t really care about Christmas, since she was only 6 weeks old.

This year, she’ll love it!

So I really need to get my act in gear.

What do you do when you need to get in a festive mood? Am I the only one that needs at least another month before Christmas rolls up?

Stay tuned tomorrow for a fun Christmas Q&A! I’ll be asking y’all questions about your Christmas traditions! If I met you in person, these are the things I would be interrogating you with right now. I love to know these things about people!

  1. Hi, Katie – I’m not feeling the holiday spirit either. I’m still savoring Thanksgiving and I’m just not ready for the next holiday. I have always loved Christmas. We have already have our tree up but haven’t decorated it yet. And, we’ve even made a visit to see Santa.

  2. I am with you on this one! I’ve gone through the motions of decorating and even tried watching my favorite Christmas movies but still don’t have it this year. In part, I ‘blame’ social media because it seems like people have been talking about Christmas since Halloween. I could definitely use another month before Christmas to ease into the holiday spirit. Let me know if you figure out how to get it back 🙂

  3. I’m totally OVER Christmas right now. Seriously, it’s stupid stressful anymore. Not to mention a certain 1 year old is like a magnet to the tree 🙂 lol

I think it’d be great to have an extra month just so everything didn’t have to be crunched and stressful! If you find some good ways to get in the Christmas mood let me in on the secret!

  4. I can’t quite believe it’s December either, so that does make it a little hard to get in the Christmas spirit. I was forced into it though as I’m hosting a couple of holiday events this weekend, so I had to get those decorations up! Having my annual Christmas events will start making it feel like the holidays though. And can you believe how tiny our babies were this time last year?!

  5. Ahhh, totally echo your feelings! Things feel so busy that I just let everything overwhelm me! So in order to combat that, Philip and I are doing advent readings every night and trying to get into the true season of “waiting” on our Savior. Another tradition we do is make a special meal (for us its beef stroganoff and christmas cookies) and watch Holiday Inn and White Christmas. It is simple but has become fun to look forward to and one day when our kids are older, they can do it with us!

    • I love those ideas! That’s kind of what we’re missing too – a chance to slow down and do something Christmas-y, and not the usual stuff. It would help make it feel special!

Gah! Two more Christmas movies I’ve never seen! I get so excited to watch my favorites that I forget about watching new ones!

  6. I was a little overwhelmed by Christmas last year. I was so pregnant with Micah and had Wendy to care for and it just felt like a lot. But wait until Elizabeth is old enough to remember Christmas or at least remember bits of it and understand words like “Presents” and “Christmas lights” haha. Your enthusiasm will return! This is Wendy’s third Christmas and she gets SO excited about everything. Anytime she hears a Christmas song she asks “what song is it, Mommy?” And she screams “CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!” when we’re out driving at night. She also got very excited about our tree (as you can see in the video I shared, haha). It’s impossible not to get into the thrill of it with her around. 🙂

And also, don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get to it all this year. You’ve got plenty more Christmases ahead and Elizabeth will remember those!

    • Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement! You’re right – many more Christmases to come! I cannot wait for Elizabeth to be really excited about it! Right now she does love looking at the lights. And I’m sure the tree will be so cool to her – when I get it up 🙂

    • It was about the only thing that got up! No lights outside, no cookies baked… a few presents (ordered from Amazon). That was about it! So I’m trying to improve on that record this year.

Plus, my husband took me on so many darn walks just a few days postpartum, that I swear I was back to my ol’ self a few weeks after.
