Travel Makeup | What’s in my Makeup Bag

I’ve mentioned MANY times that I am no expert in makeup, or makeup application.

I can barely get the crease of my eye looking right with eye shadow. I always end up looking like a bad boxer.

BUT I do know a few things about travel, packing lightly, etc. I am sure I’ve mentioned that before I quit my job to stay home full time, I worked at a job that had me, on average, flying to various parts of the country on business trips at least twice a month. I am really good at packing a carry on that has every thing I need!

Since we’ve just returned from a family trip to Colorado, I thought I would show you what products made the cut in the makeup bag!

(This is real life folks, dirty containers and brushes).

*None of the links below are affiliate links. I’m just not that cool. Just saying.*

What's in my Travel Makeup Bag at Cup of Tea

Bag (similar size) | Foundation Brush | Powder Brush | Tinted Lip Balm in Honey | BB Cream in Light | Foundation in N1-2 | Mascara | Cream Blush in Sheer Berry | Concealer in Warm Ivory | Corrector in Light Bisque | Eye Shadow in Champagne | Perfume Rollerball | Blush/Bronzer Duo | Eye Liner in Espresso | Brow Pencil in Dark Brown | Brow Gel

This little bag from Forever 21 managed to hold all of my makeup items in one pouch (except the bronzer/blush compact – so close!). Everything I need to get my makeup on is all conveniently in one place. I may have a few more tinted lip balms in my diaper bag, but this is it!

Here are my face/base basics. (I could have cleaned off the foundation lid, but meh. Attention to detail, Katie!)

Face Products at Cup of Tea

Foundation Brush  |  BB Cream in Light | Foundation in N1-2 | Concealor in Warm Ivory | Corrector in Light Bisque

To start, I love this BB Cream! I could easily use it as a stand alone foundation, but I prefer a little more coverage. This Light color is a touch to tan for me, so next time I’ll pick up the Fair, but I like to use this as a primer before my foundation.

Speaking of foundation, I’ve talked about my love for this foundation before. It’s so dewy on the skin, and is a great medium coverage. This N1-2 color I have is perfect for my skin tone.

I’ve never been a huge brush girl, but I recently started using this e.l.f. powder brush to blend in my foundation. It’s cheep and gets the job done.

Finally, the Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer are two products that I’ve used forever. Seriously. Since I was a Sophomore in college. In 2003. *shudder* But my dark circles are no joke. That’s where the corrector comes in. It does a great job of covering up the dark patches. The concealer is also fab. I don’t typically get blemishes, so can’t really speak to how it covers those up, BUT the duo does a great job camouflaging dark circles.

Powder Brush | Blush/Bronzer Duo | Cream Blush in Sheer Berry | Brow Pencil in Dark Brown | Brow Gel

So I forgot to include my brow products, but I love the Milani Easy Brow pencil and the Sonia Kashuk clear brow gel. They both get the job done. I can also get away with using just one of the products, if I had to. But I’ve gushed about the Milani brow pencil before in my July Favorites post.

On to the rest of the face! Let talk the brush first. I’ve had this Bobbi Brown face blender brush for over 10 years! Talk about investing in quality! The sucker doesn’t shed, it’s so soft, and the bristles are the perfect shape for my face. Love love love!

For travel, I like a blush/bronzer duo, and this one from Neutrogena is really pretty on me. In particular, that blush color is just right. They both have a touch of shimmer, which is fine by me.

That tiny cheek stain stick is from Tarte. I received it as a free gift at Sephora, and thought it was the perfect time to give it a try. I just used the e.l.f. brush to blend it in. The cheek stain took up very little room in my makeup bag. Love trial sizes of luxury brands! Try before you buy!

Eye Products in the Travel Make up Bag at Cup of Tea

Mascara | Eye Shadow in Champagne | Eye Liner in Espresso | Tinted Lip Balm in Honey | Perfume Rollerball

Finally, the eyes and lips. I already mentioned I’m eye shadow challenged, so when I travel I stick to just one neutral, everyday shade. I recently picked up the eye shadow in a champagne shimmer color at it’s so pretty!

I also keep it fairly simple when it comes to eye liner. I just use a pencil in brown (no preference on brand!). I feel like this summer was my chance to try bright lip colors. Maybe this Fall is branching out to liquid liner?

I’m not typically married to one particular mascara. I float around, trying different ones each time. I really like this Maybelline one, though. The brush is really great. The formula is just fine. Nothing too glorious there. I think this one is all about the brush! Really fine, tiny bristles to grab even the finest of lashes.

And then, lip products. I’ve always been a tinted lip balm girl. This Revlon lip stain/balm was decently moisturizing, but the color was pretty! Very fall-like. Plus, it was buildable. The more swipes I took, the deeper the color got. It started off as a “My lips, only better”, then built up to a nice, darker shade.

That little Coach Poppy roller ball is the best thing ever for travel! It’s really compact, and applying the perfume just feels glamorous!

Makeup in my Travel Bag at Cup of TeaThat’s it! A full face look that fits in one tiny make up bag!

I could go on and on with tips for actually packing a carry on suitcase, how to strategize about the little ziplock bag to go through security, and so on! I feel like it’s the one thing I can actually say I’m an “expert” in 🙂 If you’re interested in anything like that, drop a line in the comments below and let me know what you’d like to know about!!

July Beauty Favorites | Drugstore Makeup Buys for Busy Moms

FYI – none of the links below are affiliate links.

I can’t believe another month has just whizzed by already!  Isn’t that crazy?

I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite beauty products that I have been using for the last month or so, and I love every single one of them!  They are have some serious lasting power, which is perfect for the Mom who doesn’t want to keep reapplying makeup all day.  Each one just makes your every day makeup routine feel a touch more special.

Plus, BONUS!  They are all drugstore cosmetics – wallet friendly!

Foundation | L’Oreal True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup in Soft Ivory/Classic Ivory (N1-2) | I’ve been trying out different foundations recently, hoping to find one that is 1) long lasting and 2) looks natural but decent coverage.  I cruised quite a few YouTube beauty blogger videos and saw plenty of positive reviews of the Lumi foundation.  It’s so pretty!  Medium coverage, but still a slight dewiness/glow to it.  It also lasts throughout the day, which is a miracle considering I’m a chronic face toucher.

Eye Brow Pencil | Milani Easy Brow Automatic Pencil in Dark Brown | All I really care about a brow product is that is darkens my eye brows up a touch (because they’re lighter than my natural hair color) and stays put.  This does the job, and cheaply.  I apply the color to my brows, then brush the product through with the attached comb.  Then I finish up with some clear brow gel.  Easy!

Bronzer | Milani Baked Bronzer in Glow 04 | Most bronzers end up making my pale skin look dirty.  While most women would want a nice pigmented bronzer, I like a lightly tinted one.  I can layer up this bronzer pretty easily, and even reapply later in the day (which can be dangerous with me and other bronzers!).  The “shimmer” that’s in this baked bronzer shows up a little bit on the skin, but not much.

Eye Shadow | Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze | Holy moly, talk about color pay out!  These eye shadows are really pigmented.  I have been wearing this bronze color almost daily since I purchased it.  I’m able to build the color easily and even smudge it well in my crease.  The color looks intense in the pot, but goes on really natural with the first swipe.  It also lasts ALL DAY!

Lip Stain | Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in India Intrigue | Now, I’m really just a tinted lip balm kind of girl… but these are amazing! Bright colors, lasts a long time, and really does moisturize.  I feel like this has the lasting power/color payout of a lip stick, the sheen of a gloss, plus the moisturizing benefits of a lip balm!  Win-win-win!

If you want to see them on a live body, you can see them all on my face here:

What have you been loving recently? Any favorite makeup items?  I’m itching to test a few more!

Wish List | What I Want for My 30th Birthday

30th Birthday Wishlist
1. See by Chole | 2. Flats | 3. Brushes | 4. Mug | 5. Necklace | 6. Handbag | 7. Bakeware Set

July is my Birth Month! Yippee!  This year is my 30th…. not sure how I feel about that yet.

If the world were perfect, the above it what I’d want for my birthday!  Now, some of this is really extravagant ($350 bakeware set??), but a girl can dream, right?

1. See by Chloe perfume – I gave this a sniff when I was at Sephora the other day, and it smells so beautiful!  The perfect hint of floral without knocking your head off.

2. C. Wonder Flats – so apparently the cute whale ones are sold out online, BUT I spied them in the window when I strolled past our C. Wonder store at our mall.  I may have to go back and pick them up as a Happy Birthday present to myself 🙂

3. Real Techniques Core Collection Brush Set – I’ve heard great things about the Real Techniques brushes.  I’m not a makeup brush user, but I’m trying to be.  These are reasonably prices and I hear they are great quality!

4. Royal Albert Friendship Green Vintage Mug – Isn’t that mug adorable?  It’s the kind of mug I’d have on display in my tea cupboard.  Right next to my commemorative Will & Kate Royal Wedding mug.  (Yes, I own one… don’t judge)

5. Baublebar Peacock Chandelier Collar Necklace – Every time I go on to Baublebar’s website, I see this necklace, put it in my shopping cart, but never purchase it.  I don’t know why! It’s a good price, and it hot pink.

6. Kate Spade Holly Street Ashton – This mint color is just adorable, and I love a top handle bag.

7. Williams-Sonoma Goldtouch Non Stick 15 Piece Bakeware Set – So this is a bit much.  It’s a $350 bakeware set… but I’m in desperate need of new bakeware, and this is the best.  (Husband, if you’re reading this, maybe just the cake pans to start??)

So I wish…. I dream…. I don’t need any of this, but it’s fun!

May Favorites | A Little Summer + Beauty + TV

May Favorites | Cup of Tea blog

Yes – I’m not afraid of weird pictures of me on the internets.

I cannot believe another month has come and gone.  Holy moly. But that means it’s favorites time 🙂  This is a collection of things that I have been obsessed with this month.  Some beauty items, some entertainment.

If you missed last month’s favorites, you can check it out here!

Here’s what I’m loving! You can read (boring) or watch (fun!) below!

Fireflies – This is what Summer means to me.  I love those little twinkling bugs.  It’s a rare thing these days that I’m actually awake when it’s dark outside to see them (I’m lame), but they just make my heart sing.  Some of my favorite Summer memories as a kid are my sister and I running around, catching fireflies, and putting them in jars.  We also used to shake them up (lightly!), and put them down in our “Firefly Hospital” and try to help them fly away.  Man, I’m itching to open up an NC branch of the Firefly Hospital.

Favorite Nail Polish – NYC Long Wearing Nail Enamel in Lexington Lilac – I’ve talked about finding a lilac or lavender nail polish for months now.  I have been searching forever.  I finally bought this one at Target (for $0.89!!!!) and the color is perfect! It’s not too light, not too neon.  I feel like, as a lady approaching the big 3-0, I can wear this color and get away with it.  In fact, it’s been on my nails almost every day for the last month.  As you know, I bite my finger nails, so you don’t want a close up.  This blog has some good snaps!

Favorite Make Up – L’Oreal Visible Lift CC Eye Concealor – I am a loyal user of both the Bobbi Brown Corrector and the Creamy Concealor.  I’ve been using them for 10 years.  But I’ve had an itch to try a new concealor.  The L’Oreal concealor is great!  It blends and builds really easily.  It also blends into a powder finish.  But my favorite part is that it has a metal rollerball application.  Love that.  Why can’t beauty manufacturers make a metal rollerball tool without product? Rolling that little guy under my eyes is simply delightful.

Favorite Hair Product – L’Oreal Volume Filler Thickening Shampoo/Conditioner – I love any shampoo or conditioner that claims to thicken, volumize, plump… you get the picture.  I enjoy swapping out my shampoo and conditioner a lot, and I decided to try this set.  My hair feels so soft AND volumized!  I normally have a hard time with conditioners.  They weigh my hair down, so I tend to just put conditioner on my ends.  With this set, I can condition my whole head and still have bounce!  I’ll definitely be repurchasing these!

Favorite Styling Tool – Curling Wand – I’m still getting the hang of it, but I’m loving my new curling wand.  I got a 1″ non-tapered curling wand, but there is also a 1.5″ version.  My hair doesn’t hold a curl well, so I opted for the smaller barrel to get a tighter curl.  My hair stays curly all day!  Not super spiral curls (that’s not the look I’m going for), but even when I finger comb all the curls right after curling, I still have waves all day.  Quite lovely.

Favorite TV Show – Breaking Bad – I know, I know…. I’m late to the game.  My hubby and I started the series on Netflix, and we quickly got hooked!  We’ve only been watching for a few weeks and we’re on Season 3 already!  I’ll admit, at first I felt like I shouldn’t like it.  I mean… it’s about drugs!  I shouldn’t find it entertaining.  I shouldn’t be rooting for the drug guys.  But, I’m addicted! (Ugh… wrong word choice) The show is obviously drama-filled, but it’s also hilarious!!!  Check it out if you’re behind the times like me.

Favorite YouTube Channel – Grav3yardgirl – I’ve been doing some serious YouTube channel cruising.  There’s some good stuff out there!  My newest obsession is Grav3yardgirl.  She. Is. Hilarious.  I can’t stop laughing when I watch her videos.  First of all, she’s quirky.  Her mannerisms are awesome.  And she does this video series of reviews for As Seen on TV products.  I seriously bing watched them all one morning.  If you haven’t seen her before, check it out!
